Artist’s Statement
Why do I paint? Why do any of us paint, write, create? An essential and eternal question.
I am conscious of an intangible emotion that, for whatever unknown and undefinable reasons, drives me to translate what I see and feel. The images I paint—portraits, flowers, figures, trees—represent my own visual language. My painting is about color, form, the interaction of light and shadow on shapes, pushed slightly beyond the real, projecting emotion, sensuality and mystery. I paint what I see—but what emanates from my hand is reality in another form, another life. Real, but not quite so.
All paintings are in oil
